While in most cases, fans can skip filler episodes and still understand the story, many of Dragon Ball Z's filler episodes include relevant information that is true to the source material.

However, both are considered canon within the anime. While they should be seen as a continuation of Goku's story, it is not necessary to watch either Dragon Ball Super or Dragon Ball GT. There are some great moments in these shows but they aren't required viewing for Dragon Ball fans.

The Dragon Ball GT is sequel for DBZ, DBGT has much violence, and so this is not recommended for children.

yes you can, in fact many dbz fans haven't even seen original db. but that way you'd certainly lose a lot of universe and character-relationships build-up and your Z experience would feel less impactful than if you had previously seen original, so in that sense it isn't very recommendable.

GT is worth watching... But if you want entertainment then skip the first saga. It is the most boring thing in Dragon Ball History. The first arc, the Black Star Dragon balls arc, has a similar tone to the OG Dragon Ball series in which it's all about tracking down the Dragon Balls.
